ECONOMIC PROMOTION AND INDONESIAN TRADE MISSION 2010 VANCOUVER, CANADA, 29-30 JUNE, 2010 Economic

Economic Promotion and Indonesian Trade Mission 2010 in
Vancouver, Canada was held on 29-30 June 2010, comprising of a
Networking Event/Seminar, One-on-One Business Meeting and
Roundtable Discussion which resulted in business contacts with 7 (seven)
Canadian businesses which has interest in cocoa, shrimp cracker, shrimp,
tilapia fish, cereal bar, throat lozenges (go-fresh), handicraft/home
decoration, textile (batik), and coconut fibre. Apart from that, Indonesian
Delegation visited T&T Supermarket, the biggest supermarket in Canada
that sells Asian food and beverage, including those from Indonesia.
The City of Vancouver has been chosen as the spot for the event
being the gateway for Asian export products, including Indonesia, to
Western Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba).
The event was convened after the G-20 Summit in Toronto, 26-27 June
2010.
The program was officially opened by the Consul General of
Indonesia, Bambang Hiendrasto, presenting the Vice Minister of Trade of
Indonesia, Mahendra Siregar, as well as representatives of the Ministry of
Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Ministry of Industries, National Agency for
Drug and Food Control (BPOM). Also present in the Trade Mission was
the Ambassador of Indonesia to Canada, the Consul General of Indonesia
in Toronto, 7 (seven) Indonesia businessmen and 80 (eighty) Canadian
participants comprising businessmen/importer, British Columbia
Government representatives, Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA),
Food and Beverage Association of Western Canada, and Board of Trades.
Canada has an income per capita of US$36,024, high consumer
buying power, great market opportunities, thus this become an important
strategy of the Economic Promotion and Indonesian Trade Mission 2010
for market penetration, enhancement of Indonesia-Canada economic,
investment and trade cooperations.
The Roundtable Discussion between the Indonesia delegation led by
the Director General of Fisheries Product Processing and Marketing,
Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Prof. Dr. Martani Huseini and
representative of CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency), discussed the
issue of quality control and fisheries product safety in Indonesia. The
discussion has given the understanding that the system applied in
Indonesia has met the quality and safety requirement of Canadian product.
Therefore it is expected that it will enhance market access for Indonesian
fisheries products in Canada.
This Economic Promotion and Indonesian Trade Promotion 2010
broadened network between the Canadian and Indonesian business
people with the expectation to develop a more concrete, sustainable
business cooperation, including the interest of the Canadian business
people to attend the Trade Expo Indonesia, in Jakarta, 13-17 October
2010.
